This perhaps is another rudimentary observation about life, but in this day and age of market driven economics, and media saturated lifestyles, it has to be brought to the surface.
There are certain things we NEED in this world and the rest is all just WANTS.
Basically, if you’re fed, clean, warm and healthy, your NEEDS are taken care of. The rest of the things that you spend money on fall into the category of WANTS.
That’s simple, but you have to understand that there is a multi-billion dollar industry out there whose sole mission in life is to confuse your needs with your wants, so that you go out and buy, buy, buy, so that their stock (and their clients stock) can go up, up, up, and you are forever removed from your money achieving its greatest good in your own hands.
We don’t need 2000 channels of cable TV (read a book or newspaper), we don’t need a Playstation (go outside and play tag), we don’t need an H2 (ride a bike), we don’t need bling (be beautiful yourself), and we don’t need subscriptions to Vogue, Elle, GQ or Maxim (talk to your friends instead).
Now I’m not on a mission to make you jump off the grid and live in a cave, but if your struggling with money, and not saving something every month, your failing at the game. And believe me, if you have money problems, you’re part of the game, and the only one making you fail is yourself.
If you’ve got debt collectors calling you about your Lexus, get rid of it, buy a 12 year old Volvo for $2000, save some gas, and have pride in knowing that you aren’t going broke just to impress people you don’t know.
The sanity you will gain from living a financially humble life will be worth far more than the Lexus ever will.
Oh and FYI – There are some HOT granola minded guys/girls out there that will love the hell out of you for owning a 10 year old $2000 Volvo. Remember, Green is the new Black.
